Canva Integration with Smore

With our Canva integration, you can design a beautiful, on-brand header in Canva and easily add it to your Smore newsletters. Learn how below!

How to Create a Header with Canva

1. Open the Editor

To add a Canva header to an existing newsletter, go to your Newsletters page, hover over the newsletter, and click Edit.
To start a brand new newsletter, click the orange “Start a Newsletter” button at the top of your homepage.

2. Access Canva

Make sure you are logged into both your Canva and Smore accounts.
Click on the newsletter’s header, then select “Create Header with Canva.”
First-time users: You’ll see a pop-up asking for Smore to access your Canva account. Click Allow.
If you’ve never used Canva before, you’ll need to create a free account at www.canva.com.

3. Create Your Header

The Canva integration opens a pre-sized header template made to fit your Smore newsletter.
Design your header as you like, using your brand elements, fonts, and colors.

4. Save Your Header

When finished, click “Return to Smore Newsletters.”
A prompt will appear confirming that you want to return—click to confirm.
Alternatively, click Share → Return to Smore and confirm when prompted.

FAQs

Q: What if I only have a Smore account and not a Canva account?

You’ll need both Smore and Canva accounts to use the integration. Create a free Canva account at www.canva.com, then link it to Smore through the Editor.

Q: Can I access Canva projects I created before the integration?

Yes. Projects made directly on Canva.com before the update will still be available in Smore. However, projects made via the Smore/Canva integration will not sync back to your Canva.com account.

Q: How can I rename my newsletter?

Click the header in the Editor and change the Title. When sending newsletters, this Title is also used as the email subject line. Don’t forget to click Done to save changes.

Q: Why am I receiving an “Oops” error if I used Canva headers before?

When the update launched, all Canva and Smore accounts became unsynced. You’ll need to recreate your headers.

💡 Workaround: Duplicate a newsletter with the header you want, take a screenshot, and upload it to Canva. Or, start fresh with a new header.

Q: Can I use my Brand Kit templates?

Yes! You can now use your Canva Brand Kit within your Smore Canva headers.

Q: Can I edit my header after adding it to a newsletter?

Absolutely. In the Editor, click the header and choose “Edit Header in Canva.” After editing, click “Return to Smore Newsletters” to apply the updated version.
